SitPretty

Posture that learns you.

SitPretty is a Mac menu bar app that uses the motion sensors in your AirPods to notice when you have been slouching for a while, and gives you a gentle nudge. You teach it how you sit in one minute. No camera, and nothing leaves your Mac.

Free during early access. Everyone who joins now keeps SitPretty free, forever.

  • Teach it once. Sit at your usual desk, look at a dot in the middle of the screen, and alternate sitting tall and slouching the way you really do, three times each for ten seconds. SitPretty then tells you honestly whether your AirPods can tell the two apart.
  • Nudges only when it's sure. Looking down at a low screen is fine. Glancing at a second display, drinking or standing up is fine. Staying slumped for about a minute and a half is not. When SitPretty can't tell, it stays quiet.
  • Gets better with every answer. Answer a nudge with “That's right” or “False alarm”, or press a shortcut when it missed one. Your personal model changes right away, and Settings shows how often it gets you right, day by day.
  • Private by design. It runs entirely on your Mac. No camera, no microphone, no account, no analytics. The App Store build has no network access at all.

Why not a fixed angle?

Most posture apps for AirPods decide that a slouch is your head tilted down past a fixed angle. That breaks as soon as your screen is low: you look down to read it, and the app keeps nagging you while you are sitting fine. SitPretty learns your own upright and your own slouch at your own desk, so looking down at your screen is part of what “upright” means for you.

What you need

A Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 14 or later, and AirPods that support head tracking: AirPods (3rd generation or later), any AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, or a Beats model with head tracking. Check your AirPods.

What it doesn't do

  • It senses your head, not your spine. A slouch that leaves your head angle exactly where it was cannot be seen.
  • It only works while your AirPods are in and connected to this Mac. If they are playing on your iPhone, there is no data.
  • It is for Mac only. There is no iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch version.
  • It is a habit tool, not a medical device. If you have pain, talk to a doctor.
